There will be a limited amount of drawing boards and materials\, available on a first come first serve basis. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThis session is a chilled out place to have a go if you haven’t drawn before and also a perfect opportunity for the more experienced artists to practise. \nYou are encouraged to come from 6:15pm to chat and find a place. There will be a 20 minute break in the middle to finish off the fromage and get your complimentary glass of wine. \nTo make our model feel as comfortable as possible we would ask you to follow standard life drawing etiquette and talk quietly. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFAQs \nAre there ID or minimum age requirements for this class? \nThe class is for people ages 16+. \nWhat are my transportation/parking options for getting to and from the event? \nOn street parking is free and unlimited. Public transport links are nearby\, and the venue is easily accessible on foot from Liverpool City Centre. \nHow accessible is the venue? \nThe workshop is located on the ground floor which provides full accessibility to the premises including toilet provisions. We would advise wheelchair users to contact the workshop provider on the sale of the ticket to arrange a parking bay. \nWhere can I contact the organiser with any questions? \nFeel free to get in touch with the Make CIC office at 0151 601 8665 or email hello@makecic.org \nI have dietary requirements – what should I do? \nWe are able to supply vegan cheese and offer a gluten free option if you get in touch ahead of the class – however we are not an allergen free restaurant and cannot ensure that cross contamination will never occur. \nIs my registration/ticket transferrable? \nIf you find that you cannot attend then you are welcome to pass your place on to a friend who may find it useful. Please let the organiser know if you need to do this. Alternatively tickets can be transferred to a future event up to 7 days before the event. \nDo I have to bring my printed ticket to the event? \nA register will be taken at the workshop\, it isn’t necessary to print your ticket. \nThe name on the registration/ticket doesn’t match the attendee. Is that okay? \nPlease bring along a print out of your ticket if the registration does not match the attendee\, or contact hello@makecic.org to have them change the ticket so it contains your name. \nCan I get a refund for my ticket? \nRefunds are available up to 7 days before the event. \nRefunds will be offered in the event of the event being cancelled\, alternative dates will be offered if appropriate. \nIf for any reason you find you are unable to attend then please get in touch and a refund can be offered up to 7 days before the class. After this date we can only offer a refund if your space is able to be filled. \nThis is because we pay our practitioners fair wages for their work- giving refunds on last minute cancellations would mean that practitioners would not be paid for the preparation they have put into their classes.

SUMMARY:Leah Foulkes Solo Exhibition (Independents Biennial)
DESCRIPTION:Make CIC are proud to announce the first exhibition in our new gallery space at our North Docks Site – Sculptor Leah Foulkes\, in collaboration with the 2025 Independents Biennial. \nThe exhibition will be open Monday – Saturday from 11am – 4pm from Friday the 17th of July – Saturday 9th August 2025. \n  \nArtist Statement \nI have always been fascinated by architecture extending to the appreciation of the derelict\, \ndilapidated and decayed. The contrasting properties of materials found within the urban \nlandscape have informed the development of my current sculptural language. I often use \nmaterials and objects taken directly from the built environment without changing their \nfound characteristics in the construction process. The work I am creating is about the formal \nqualities of materials and how I can disrupt or enhance these qualities. I enjoy testing the \nlimits of materials and exploring the ways to manipulate them into new forms or combine \nthem in unexpected ways. Space\, form and materials are all things I consider when making \nthe pieces\, being informed by the space they will occupy and how the forms created will \nchallenge that space. \n  \nArtist’s Biography \nLeah Foulkes is a recent Fine Art graduate from Wrexham University and is now a studio \nholder at Stwidio Olivet\, where she has spent time producing abstract sculptures inspired by \nurban and industrial areas\, through a process of material exploration. The contrasting \nproperties of materials found within the urban environment have formed the development \nof her current sculptural language. She predominantly works on large scale three- \ndimensional pieces but occasionally dips into painting and drawing too. Growing up in \nEllesmere Port has inspired many of Leah’s use of materials\, in particular industrial materials \nmore commonly used in construction and architecture. Leah enjoys testing the limits of \nmaterials and exploring the ways to manipulate them into new forms or combine them in \nunexpected ways.

SUMMARY:Borderline Project by Shiro MASUYAMA
DESCRIPTION:Shiro Masuyama\, a Japanese artist based in Belfast\, Northern Ireland\, converted the interior of a used caravan into two parts—one half related to Irish culture and the other half to British culture. Many of the items\, symmetrically displayed on their respective sides\, have counterparts in both cultures. \nSince moving to Northern Ireland in 2010\, he has often been unsure about the distinctions between Irish and British culture within the complex society of the region. The project has helped him learn and understand the nuances of culture through discussions with people he has encountered who have physically entered the caravan. He has continued to develop the work by constantly adding objects and correcting/adapting the display. Over time\, the caravan has transformed into a small museum of culture; however\, he has struggled to maintain an equal balance between the Irish and British aspects. \nAs he is Japanese\, he has been able to conduct the project from an outsider’s perspective and to bring a degree of neutrality to his approach—he is not religious\, and he doesn’t have any political leanings. \nHe finds it really meaningful to show the caravan in Liverpool\, which is widely known for having the strongest Irish heritage of any UK city. \nArtist bio : \nShiro MASUYAMA is originally from Japan. His master’s degree in architecture has influenced his art projects\, which primarily take the form of site-specific architectural interventions. Using his architectural background and his Japanese identity\, he makes projects that fundamentally connect people and society— so-called socially engaged art. He believes interaction with people often brings unexpected results. It’s one of the most important processes and components in completing an artwork. \nHe moved to Belfast\, Northern Ireland after completing international residencies at the Irish Museum of Modern Art in Dublin\, Ireland (2006)\, and Flax Art Studios in Belfast\, Northern Ireland (2009)\, and has been based there ever since. As an artist from Japan who has made their home in Northern Ireland\, he is in a unique position to question how identity can be influenced by the dominant political forces surrounding us. \nHe has attended numerous exhibitions worldwide\, including ‘BIENALSUR 2021 – The State of Things’\, MACRO Museum of Contemporary Art Rosario\, Argentina (2021); ‘Aichi Triennale 2013 : Awakening’\, Nagoya\, Japan (2013). \nhttps://www.shiromasuyama.net/

SUMMARY:FLIPIM 2025 - Flipping conversations on homes and highstreets
DESCRIPTION:About this event \nOn Friday 26th September\, Make CIC and Future Yard CIC are hosting a day of conversation focused on two vital\, connected topics: housing and high streets. Too often\, the people doing the real work on the ground aren’t included in high-profile events. We’re flipping that script; bringing together doers\, experts\, policymakers\, and community voices to shape the conversation. \nWhy now? Because big questions need broad perspectives: \nHow can we deliver 1.5 million new homes before the end of this Parliament and empower community solutions?\nWhat will it take to reverse high-street decline and future-proof our places amid rapid technological change? \nThis event will be a space to listen\, share\, debate\, and co-create ideas. We’ll gather insights found in presentations\, workshops\, panels\, and discussions from across the day\, into a response that we plan to present to the Labour Party Conference the following week. \nTickets will include refreshments & food. \nPlease note: the Access Bursary ticket requires an application process.
