SUMMARY:Intro to Beekeeping: Honey Harvesting
DESCRIPTION:The bees at Make Hamilton have been working hard over the summer months\, gathering nectar and pollen and building up stores of honey in their hives. The honey will be harvested at the end of summer\, and this workshop gives you the opportunity to experience the harvesting first-hand. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe workshop is split into two parts. First\, we will introduce you to how a hive works\, and how the bees store their honey. We will talk through the cycle of honey production\, and the life of a colony through a typical year. We’ll pull on beekeeping veils and head outside where you’ll have the chance to look inside a hive to see the bees working on their honeycomb. \nIn the second part of the workshop we will return indoors to experience the process of extracting honey by spinning honeycomb frames. You will handle honeycombs\, and experience the smells and stickiness that go with that! You’ll get to use the extractor\, and watch the honey being spun out of the frames then collected for bottling. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe session is very interactive\, and will respond to the questions and interests of participants. The session is led by John\, who has kept bees for many years\, and is the resident beekeeper at Make. \nAll equipment/ protective bee suits will be provided\, but please come wearing long sleeved tops\, full length trousers and closed shoes (i.e. no sandals). \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFAQs: \nDo I need any experience prior to the class? \nNo prior experience is necessary\, all health and safety will be taught by our experienced technician. \n  \nAre there ID or minimum age requirements to enter the event? \nAny child under 18 must be accompanied by an adult\, this particular class is not suitable for individuals under 16. We run a no under 15 policy. \n  \nWhat are my transportation/parking options for getting to and from the event? \nBy Train: \nWe are a stone’s throw away from Hamilton Square train station which is just a short walk down Cleveland street and accessible from all inner city Liverpool Stations and all Wirral line stations. \nBy Bus: \nThere are numerous bus stops nearby and around the Hamilton Square area\, all just short walks away from our space. These include numbers: 41\, 216\, 217\, 409\, 410\, 411\, 413\, 414\, 423\, 811 and several others. \nBy Car \nFollow the signs for Hamilton Square. We don’t have any designated parking for visitors but there is a range of paid and free parking close by. \nPaid parking: \n– Cleveland Street \n– Prince Street \n– Elgin Way \n– Duncan Street \n– Hinson Street \nMore on wirral.gov.uk/parking-roads-and-travel \nFree and unlimited parking: \n– Russell Street (5 min walk) \n– Brooke Street East (5 min walk) \nParking becomes free and unlimited after 6:30pm. \nDownloading the Just Park app on your mobile device will allow for more efficient and cheaper parking payments. \n  \nHow accessible is the venue? \nThe workshop is located on ground floor which provides full accessibility to the premises including toilet provisions. \n  \nWhere can I contact the organiser with any questions? \nFeel free to get in touch on 0151 601 8665 or email hello@makecic.org \n  \nIs my registration/ticket transferrable? \nIf you find that you cannot attend then you are welcome to pass your place on to a friend who may find it useful. Please let the organiser know if you need to do this. \nAlternatively tickets can be transferred to a future event up to 7 days before the event. \n  \nDo I have to bring my printed ticket to the event? \nNo\, a register will be taken at the workshop\, it isn’t necessary to print your ticket. \n  \nWhat is the refund/cancellation policy? \nRefunds will be offered in the event of the class being cancelled – in this instance we will give as much notice as possible\, usually at least 5 days\, and offer alternative dates if appropriate. \nThis class does have a minimum requirement of ticket sales to proceed\, so there is a possibility of it being cancelled\, but we will contact you five days before if this is the case. \nIf for any reason you find you are unable to attend then please get in touch and a refund can be offered up to 7 days before the workshop. \nThis is because we pay our practitioners fair wages for their work- giving refunds on last minute cancellations would mean that practitioners would not be paid for the preparation they have put into their classes. \n*Refunds will be given minus Eventbrite fees\, unless Make CIC cancel the class\, in which case a full refund will be given* \n  \nThe name on the registration/ticket doesn’t match the attendee. Is that okay? \nPlease bring along a print out of your ticket if the registration does not match the attendee\, or contact hello@makecic.org to have them change the ticket so it contains your name. \n  \nWhat can I bring into the event? \nThere will be a short break during the session with the opportunity for snacks and coffee! Please bring along lunch/snacks if you would prefer not to buy it. All materials will be provided for the class. \n  \nWhat should I wear? \nWear clothes that you are comfortable in. SUMMARY:Botanical Clay Casting
DESCRIPTION:This workshop is suitable for all abilities and will enable you to create a beautiful keepsake with ease. \nThe botanical art tiles are made by pressing plants\, flowers & objects into clay. They are then removed & plaster is poured over to create the cast. The process picks up an incredible amount of detail to create a beautiful raised impression. \n\n\n\n\n\nIn this workshop we will create two works of art – both the clay imprint and the plaster cast\, in a shape and size of your choice. A lovely memory of summer flowers\, or perhaps more sentimental flowers – a dried wedding bouquet or a relatives favourite flower could be pressed to create a treasured keepsake. The Botanical Impressions and casts make ideal gifts for garden and nature lovers too. \nThe artist will demonstrate how to roll out your clay\, imprint your foliage and create a frame to pour in the plaster of Paris. This will then set over lunch. \nAfter lunch we will delicately paint the plaster cast using acrylic paints and a drybrushing and rubbing technique shown. We can then add a D ring hook to the back of each art piece so they can be hung on the wall or they can be placed on a stand to display \n\n\n\n\n\nThis workshop will be lead by Helen Jones theartdoctoruk \nFacebook: theartdoctoruk \nInstagram : The_Art_Doctor_UK \n\n\n\n\n\nFAQs \nAre there ID or minimum age requirements to enter the event? \nAny child under 16 must be accompanied by an adult and we operate a no under 10 policy. \nWhat are my transportation/parking options for getting to and from the event? \nBy Train: \nWe are a stone’s throw away from Hamilton Square train station which is just a short walk down Cleveland street and accessible from all inner city Liverpool Stations and all Wirral line stations. \nBy Bus: \nThere are numerous bus stops nearby and around the Hamilton Square area\, all just short walks away from our space. These include numbers: 41\, 216\, 217\, 409\, 410\, 411\, 413\, 414\, 423\, 811 and several others. \nBy Car: \nFollow the signs for Hamilton Square. \nHow accessible is the venue? \nThe workshop is located on the ground floor which provides full accessibility to the premises including toilet provisions. \nWe have tea and coffee facilities on site and there are lots of cafes locally for the lunch break! \nWhere can I contact the organiser with any questions? \nFeel free to get in touch with the Make CIC office at 0151 601 8665 or email hello@makecic.org \nIs my registration/ticket transferrable? \nIf you find that you cannot attend then you are welcome to pass your place on to a friend who may find it useful. Please let the organiser know if you need to do this. \nAlternatively tickets can be transferred to a future event up to 7 days before the event. \nDo I have to bring my printed ticket to the event? \nNo\, a register will be taken at the workshop\, it isn’t necessary to print your ticket. \nWhat is the refund/cancellation policy? \n*Refunds will be given minus Eventbrite fees\, unless Make CIC cancel the class\, in which case a full refund will be given* \nThe name on the registration/ticket doesn’t match the attendee. Alternatively tickets can be transferred to a future event up to 7 days before the event. \nDo I have to bring my printed ticket to the event? \nA register will be taken at the workshop\, it isn’t necessary to print your ticket. \nThe name on the registration/ticket doesn’t match the attendee. Is that okay? \nPlease bring along a print out of your ticket if the registration does not match the attendee\, or contact hello@makecic.org to have them change the ticket so it contains your name. \nWhat can I bring into the event? \nThere will be a short break during the session with the opportunity for snacks and coffee! Please bring along lunch/snacks if you would prefer not to buy it. All materials will be provided for the class. \nWhat should I wear? \nWear clothes that you don’t mind getting dirty. Closed-toe shoes are required. Long hair must be tied back and jewellery and any loose items such as scarves will need to be removed or tucked away prior to the class starting. These rules are for your safety and must be followed. It also tends to run a bit chilly in the workshop\, as it is in a warehouse\, so dress in layers and wear thick-soled shoes. \nCan I get a refund for my ticket? \nRefunds are available up to 7 days before the event. \nRefunds will be offered in the event of the event being cancelled\, alternative dates will be offered if appropriate. \nIf for any reason you find you are unable to attend then please get in touch and a refund can be offered up to 7 days before the workshop. After this date we can only offer a refund if your space is able to be filled. \nThis is because we pay our practitioners fair wages for their work- giving refunds on last minute cancellations would mean that practitioners would not be paid for the preparation they have put into their classes.
