SUMMARY:Summer Herbs for Health
DESCRIPTION:Would you like to know how to use herbs to support your wellbeing but don’t know where to start? \nIn this beginners workshop\, you will be introduced to a variety of herbs and shown how to use them to make teas\, tinctures\, oil infusions and balms. An opportunity to indulge in home herbalism to discover and connect to the plants growing around us. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe workshop will include: \n– how to dry & store herbs \n– how to make herbal tea infusions \n– how to make a herbal oxymel \n– home made cake and herbal tea tastings \n– how to prepare an oil infusion \n– how to make a soothing balm \n  \nA homemade cake & herbal tea break is included in the workshop\, prepared using herbs grown in our community garden. The cake will be gluten free & vegan. \nPlease get in touch if you have any other dietary requirements. \nAll materials will be provided but please wear clothing suitable for the outdoors as we will try to spend some time in the garden (and we can’t guarantee sun unfortunately!). \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nEverything you make in the session will be yours to take home\, including: \n– a herbal oxymel (made with honey) \n– a herb infused oil \n– a herbal balm \nThe herbs you will be using during the session have been grown and dried on site in our community garden or foraged from local wild spots! \nThe herbs we will work with during the day will include: \n– calendula \n– chamomile \n– nettle \n– mint \n– rose \n– and many more! \n** Please note – the oxymel and the balms are made using honey / beeswax from our on site sustainably managed bee hives ** \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout the Teacher \nThe Herbs for Health workshops are led by Rosie Ashton a self taught community herbalist who has been working with plants for several years in community gardens across the UK. \nRosie has a background in permaculture and is an experienced food grower and plant-based chef. She has been creating community gardens and facilitating food growing and wellbeing sessions since 2016. \nWith a passion for plants\, she spends her free time deepening her herbal knowledge foraging\, and in her allotment where she grows an ever growing collection of medicinal herbs . \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFAQs \nAre the lip balms vegan? \nNo\, however the beeswax is sourced from our onsite bee hives which are sustainably managed. \nAre there ID or minimum age requirements to enter the event? \nAny child under 16 must be accompanied by an adult and we operate a no under 10 policy. \nWhat are my transportation/parking options for getting to and from the event? \nBy Train: \nWe are a stone’s throw away from Hamilton Square train station which is just a short walk down Cleveland street and accessible from all inner city Liverpool Stations and all Wirral line stations. \nBy Bus: \nThere are numerous bus stops nearby and around the Hamilton Square area\, all just short walks away from our space. DESCRIPTION:A great way to hone your woodworking skills\, or to learn a new skill from scratch\, this four hour hands-on class will take you through the different skills and techniques needed to create your own wine rack! \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nUsing recycled and reclaimed wood\, our woodwork tutor Chris will guide you through the different steps to crafting your very own wine rack. By making your own wine rack you’ll learn how to measure and cut wood accurately and safely; as well as sanding\, planing\, drilling and sawing. \n  \nYou will use: \nChop/ Mitre saw -Cut wood at various angles \nBand saw – Rip through timber \nJigsaw – Free form cuts \nDrill driver – Pilot holes & fixing screws \nPillar drill – bore vertical holes \nDisc / Belt sander – Accurate\, powerful sanding \nPalm sander – Versatile sanding \n  \nJoin our class and build your confidence using a range of woodworking tools and techniques\, while making your very own wine rack. \nAll tools\, equipment and materials will be provided on the day. \nPlease arrive 15 mins before the class begins. SUMMARY:Bee Happy: An Introduction to Bees and Beekeeping
DESCRIPTION:You may know how important honey bees are for pollinating food crops and the environment\, but you may not know about the amazing life of bees in their hive. In this short course you will gain insight into the life of a honey bee colony\, and understand what beekeeping involves. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDuring this workshop you will learn in a hands-on way about the life of a honey bee colony\, exploring the ins and outs of a hive and running through the stages of hive activity through the year. \nA demonstration hive will allow you to also experience the textures and smells of the inside of a hive. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWe will talk through the equipment needed to keep bees\, and for those who are thinking about it\, talk through steps to keeping your own bees. \nAfter refreshments\, we will be pulling on protective bee gear\, and gaining some hands on experience with the Make Hamilton bee hives. SUMMARY:Herbal Forest School
DESCRIPTION:Looking for a unique and enriching experience that combines the best of forest school and herbalism? \nEach workshop is structured like a forest school experience\, with a focus on learning through play and exploration. You’ll have the opportunity to immerse yourself in the natural world and learn about the different plants and herbs that grow in your local environment. You’ll discover how to identify different plants\, learn about their medicinal properties and uses\, and explore ways to incorporate them into your daily life for greater health and wellbeing. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nIn addition to the hands-on learning opportunities\, our workshop series also includes reflective exercises designed to help you deepen your connection with nature whilst living in an urban area. \nWhether you’re a seasoned herbalist or just starting to explore the world of nature connection and herbalism\, our workshop series is the perfect opportunity to learn\, grow\, and connect with like-minded individuals in a supportive and nurturing environment. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nHerbal Forest School is a four-part series for adults\, held in the community garden at Make Hamilton. The focus of the workshops is to explore the natural environment in an urban context. \nEach session is stand alone\, but where possible attendees should commit to all four sessions as every week we will build upon themes from the previous week. However\, we do not want this to be a barrier\, so please get in touch if you are unable to attend all sessions. \nThe sessions will be held outdoors so please bring along a coat as we cannot guarantee the sunshine (but it’s all part of the experience!). \nHerbal teas will be available during the sessions and attendees will have access to Make Hamilton Squares facilities which are fully accessible throughout the sessions. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout the Facilitator \nThe Herbal Forest School workshops are led by Rosie Ashton a self taught community herbalist who has been working with plants for several years in community gardens across the UK. \nRosie has a background in permaculture and is an experienced food grower and plant-based chef. DESCRIPTION:If you enjoy doodling and sketching and want the chance to do some life drawing in a friendly relaxed atmosphere\, then come and check out our monthly class! \nThe sessions take place in our beautiful\, cosy bar and include a cheese board and glass of wine. For those of you who are new to life drawing and maybe feeling a tad awkward or nervous\, having a complimentary glass of wine will help you get into your creative flow! \nThe cheeseboard will be served during the break so please let us know if you have any dietary requirements and we’ll do our best to accommodate you. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThis class is for anyone aged 16 or over\, whether you’re a regular at life drawing classes or you can barely hold a pencil\, everyone is welcome. This is an untaught session to come and practise. \nPlease bring whichever materials you feel comfortable working with\, from some charcoal to a biro\, a small sketch pad to A3 sheets of paper. There will be a limited amount of drawing boards and materials\, available on a first come first serve basis. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThis session is a chilled out place to have a go if you haven’t drawn before and also a perfect opportunity for the more experienced artists to practise. \nYou are encouraged to come from 6:15pm to chat and find a place. SUMMARY:Bee Happy: An Introduction to Bees and Beekeeping
DESCRIPTION:You may know how important honey bees are for pollinating food crops and the environment\, but you may not know about the amazing life of bees in their hive. In this short course you will gain insight into the life of a honey bee colony\, and understand what beekeeping involves. \n\n\n\n\n\nDuring this workshop you will learn in a hands-on way about the life of a honey bee colony\, exploring the ins and outs of a hive and running through the stages of hive activity through the year. \nA demonstration hive will allow you to also experience the textures and smells of the inside of a hive. \n\n\n\n\n\nWe will talk through the equipment needed to keep bees\, and for those who are thinking about it\, talk through steps to keeping your own bees. \nAfter refreshments\, we will be pulling on protective bee gear\, and gaining some hands on experience with the Make Hamilton bee hives. DESCRIPTION:If you enjoy doodling and sketching and want the chance to do some life drawing in a friendly relaxed atmosphere\, then come and check out our monthly class! \nThe sessions take place in our beautiful\, cosy bar and include a cheese board and glass of wine. For those of you who are new to life drawing and maybe feeling a tad awkward or nervous\, having a complimentary glass of wine will help you get into your creative flow! \nThe cheeseboard will be served during the break so please let us know if you have any dietary requirements and we’ll do our best to accommodate you. \n\n\n\n\n\nThis class is for anyone aged 16 or over\, whether you’re a regular at life drawing classes or you can barely hold a pencil\, everyone is welcome. DESCRIPTION:A great way to hone your woodworking skills\, or to learn a new skill from scratch\, this four hour hands-on class will take you through the different skills and techniques needed to create your own toolbox! \n\n\n\n\n\nUsing recycled and reclaimed wood\, our woodwork tutor Tommy will walk you through the steps to crafting your very own toolbox. \nBy making your own tool box you’ll learn how to measure and cut wood accurately and safely; as well as sanding\, plaining\, drilling and sawing. \n  \nYou will use: \nChop/ Mitre saw -Cut wood at various angles \nBand saw – Rip through timber \nJigsaw – Free form cuts \nDrill driver – Pilot holes & fixing screws \nPillar drill – bore vertical holes \nDisc / Belt sander – Accurate\, powerful sanding \nPalm sander – Versatile sanding \n  \nJoin our class and build your confidence using a range of woodworking tools and techniques\, while making your very own toolbox. \nAll tools\, equipment and materials will be provided on the day. \nPlease arrive 15 mins before the class begins. SUMMARY:Drink & Draw: Life Drawing
DESCRIPTION:If you enjoy doodling and sketching and want the chance to do some life drawing in a friendly relaxed atmosphere\, then come and check out our monthly class! \nThe sessions take place in our beautiful\, cosy bar and include a cheese board and glass of wine. For those of you who are new to life drawing and maybe feeling a tad awkward or nervous\, having a complimentary glass of wine will help you get into your creative flow! \nThe cheeseboard will be served during the break so please let us know if you have any dietary requirements and we’ll do our best to accommodate you. \n\n\n\n\n\nThis class is for anyone aged 16 or over\, whether you’re a regular at life drawing classes or you can barely hold a pencil\, everyone is welcome. This is an untaught session to come and practise. \nPlease bring whichever materials you feel comfortable working with\, from some charcoal to a biro\, a small sketch pad to A3 sheets of paper. There will be a limited amount of drawing boards and materials\, available on a first come first serve basis. \n\n\n\n\n\nThis session is a chilled out place to have a go if you haven’t drawn before and also a perfect opportunity for the more experienced artists to practise. \nYou are encouraged to come from 6:15pm to chat and find a place. DESCRIPTION:During this session\, you will learn how to make your own terrazzo coasters! You will have the option to make a pair of round or square coasters and we will teach you how to achieve any colour terrazzo chips and/or coaster base you want. At the end of the session\, your coasters will be ready to take home. \n\n\n\n\n\nThe workshop will be running for approximately 3 hours and will be broken down in 3 parts with a 30 minutes break in between each\, which will allow your creations to dry as well as provide us with the opportunity for a short natter over some complimentary refreshments. \nThis Mother’s Day afternoon session includes coffee and tea as well as special afternoon tea snacks. DESCRIPTION:About this event\n\n\n\n\nIf you enjoy doodling and sketching and want the chance to do some life drawing in a friendly relaxed atmosphere\, then come and check out our monthly class! \nThe sessions take place in our beautiful\, cosy bar and include a cheese board and glass of wine. For those of you who are new to life drawing and maybe feeling a tad awkward or nervous\, having a complimentary glass of wine will help you get into your creative flow! \nThe cheeseboard will be served during the break so please let us know if you have any dietary requirements and we’ll do our best to accommodate you. \n\n\n\n\n\nThis class is for anyone aged 16 or over\, whether you’re a regular at life drawing classes or you can barely hold a pencil\, everyone is welcome. DESCRIPTION:Join our introduction to woodwork class\, part of Make CIC’s woodwork programme for beginners and learn some new skills. Every last Saturday of the month. \n\n\nAbout this event \n\n\n\nA great way to hone your woodworking skills\, or to learn a new skill from scratch\, this five hour hands-on class will take you through the different skills and techniques needed to create your own toolbox in a safe and socially distanced way! \n\n\n\n\n\n\nUsing recycled and reclaimed wood\, our workshop manager will walk you through the steps to crafting your very own toolbox. By making your own tool box you’ll learn how to measure and cut wood accurately and safely; as well as sanding\, planing\, drilling and sawing. \nYou will use: \nChop/ Mitre saw – Cut wood at various angles \nBand saw – Rip through timber \nJigsaw – Free form cuts \nDrill driver – Pilot holes & fixing screws \nPillar drill – bore vertical holes \nDisc / Belt sander – Accurate\, powerful sanding \nPalm sander – Versatile sanding \nThe great thing about joining onto our introduction to woodwork class is\, once you’ve been inducted into the class and introduced to all of our equipment here at Make Liverpool\, you’ll be fully inducted into Make Liverpool’s workshop! So if you decide woodwork is for you want to come back to work on your own projects\, all you’ll need to do is sign up. When you’ve attended a class\, you’ll be entitled to a discount on your first month of membership as well! Alternatively you can park in our visitor car park. We have 4 parking spaces in the Make North Docks car park that will be allocated on a first come first served basis. Please let us know if you require a blue badge holder and we can reserve your space. Public transport links are nearby\, and the venue is easily accessible on foot from Liverpool City Centre (see our website for more information\, we’re located at Make North Docks). \nHow accessible is the venue? \nThe workshop is located on the ground floor which provides full accessibility to the premises including toilet provisions. Closed-toe shoes are required. Long hair must be tied back and jewellery and any loose items such as scarves will need to be removed or tucked away prior to the class starting. These rules are for your safety and must be followed.
