SUMMARY:Eco-resin Terrazzo: Make your own pair of coasters!
DESCRIPTION:Love terrazzo? Learn the technique whilst making your own coaster set! \nTerrazzo Coaster Workshop \nDuring this session\, you will learn how to make your own terrazzo coasters! You will have the option to make a pair of round or square coasters and we will teach you how to achieve any colour terrazzo chips and/or coaster base you want. At the end of the session\, your coasters will be ready to take home. \n \nThe workshop will be running for approximately 3 hours and will be broken down in 3 parts with a 30 minutes break in between each\, which will allow your creations to dry as well as provide us with the opportunity for a short natter over some complimentary refreshments. \nOur new evening session includes a glass of wine (or a beer or a soft drink if you prefer) on arrival\, as well as a few snacks to share during the breaks. A small on-site bar will be available to purchase more drinks should you wish to. \nAurélie\, our resident terrazzo extraordinaire and founder of Aura Living\, will teach you all there is to know about eco-resin material\, its different applications\, and show you some other homeware accessory examples she has been making using this great material. \n \n \n \nA little more about Aurélie: \n“With a working background as an interior designer\, I began my journey with ceramics about 4 years ago. Unfortunately\, during the first lockdown\, I was no longer able to access the pottery studio which made me research other crafts and activities I could practice from home. This is when I discovered the world of Jesmonite and its endless possibilities. I first purchased a DIY kit to try it for myself and I feel in love with the process\, the ease of use and little requirement for specialised equipment or space. As a designer\, my imagination exploded with the prospect of all the ideas I could materialise using this material. I am now so excited to be sharing my knowledge of this product for you to discover and try out a new craft skill.” \n \n\n\nA note about the class: \nThe class may not be suitable for people who have any hands or wrists problems as the process requires hand sanding and polishing. \nPlease wear comfortable clothing that you don’t mind getting a bit of water splashed. The material used will wash off\, but avoid wearing your best clothes! \n  \n\n\n\n\nFAQs \nAre there ID or minimum age requirements to enter the event? \nAny child under 16 must be accompanied by an adult and we operate a no under 10 policy. \nWhat are my transportation/parking options for getting to and from the event? \nOn street parking is free and unlimited. So if you decide woodwork is for you want to come back to work on your own projects\, all you’ll need to do is sign up. When you’ve attended a class\, you’ll be entitled to a discount on your first month of membership as well! SUMMARY:Intro to Beekeeping: Honey Harvesting
DESCRIPTION:This workshop will take you step by step through the honey extraction process on our working hives in the Make Hamilton community garden. \n\n\nAbout this event \n\n\n\nThe bees at Make Hamilton have been working hard over the summer months\, gathering nectar and pollen and building up stores of honey in their hives. The honey will be harvested at the end of summer\, and this workshop gives you the opportunity to experience the harvesting first-hand. \n \nThe workshop is split into two parts. First\, we will introduce you to how a hive works\, and how the bees store their honey. We will talk through the cycle of honey production\, and the life of a colony through a typical year. We’ll pull on beekeeping veils and head outside where you’ll have the chance to look inside a hive to see the bees working on their honeycomb. \nIn the second part of the workshop we will return indoors to experience the process of extracting honey by spinning honeycomb frames. You will handle honeycombs\, and experience the smells and stickiness that go with that! You’ll get to use the extractor\, and watch the honey being spun out of the frames then collected for bottling. \n \n \nThe session is very interactive\, and will respond to the questions and interests of participants. The session is led by John\, who has kept bees for many years\, and is the resident beekeeper at Make. \nAll equipment/ protective bee suits will be provided\, but please come wearing long sleeved tops\, full length trousers and closed shoes (i.e. no sandals). \n \n \n\n\n\n\nFAQs: \nDo I need any experience prior to the class? \nNo prior experience is necessary\, all health and safety will be taught by our experienced technician. \nAre there ID or minimum age requirements to enter the event? \nAny child under 18 must be accompanied by an adult\, this particular class is not suitable for individuals under 16. After this date we can only offer a refund if your space is able to be filled. \nThis is because we pay our practitioners fair wages for their work- giving refunds on last minute cancellations would mean that practitioners would not be paid for the preparation they have put into their classes. \nI have symptoms of COVID-19 or have been told to self isolate after being in contact with someone with COVID-19 can I get a refund? \nWe can refund your ticket or transfer your ticket to a future class/workshop if you let us know 7 or more days prior to the class or workshop. \nWe can refund your ticket up to 5 days before the event if you can provide evidence of a positive test result or instructions to self isolate if we manage to re-sell the ticket. We will do our best to do so\, but cannot guarantee a refund. \nWe cannot refund your ticket in the 5 days prior to the event. You are welcome to pass your ticket on to a friend or family member but please let us know who the new ticket holder is in advance. \nThis is because we pay our practitioners fair wages for their work- giving refunds on last minute cancellations would mean that practitioners would not be paid for the preparation they have put into their classes. \n\n\n\n\n*********COVID 19************** \nWe have taken every possible step to ensure this class is run safely. \nSocial distancing measures are in place at Make. \nWe ask that everyone who enters Make’s premises uses the NHS track and trace app\, signs in and wears a face covering\, if not exempt. \nHand sanitiser and face coverings will be provided if needed. \n**PLEASE DO NOT ATTEND IF YOU HAVE SYMPTOMS OF COVID-19** \nFor more specific info on our policies and procedures please email rosie.ashton@makecic.org \n  \n\nEvery second Saturday of the month.
