We’ll be exploring how arts & culture could offer an alternative form of patriotism that makes people feel welcome and challenges negative ideas about national identity. \n\nHow can arts & culture be heard amongst large scale regeneration and political headwinds?\n\nIn the shadow of a £800 million stadium development\, we will discuss how arts & culture generates value that can supercharge regeneration and the challenges associated with individuals and organisations being taken seriously in the conversation. \nWe will be welcoming speakers from across the creative industries.  From grassroots venues & festival operators\, to educators\, policy makers\, funders\, artists\, & more. \nLiam Naughton (Managing Director\, Invisible Wind Factory) & Liam Kelly (CEO\, Make CIC) will also be giving presentations detailing the stories of IWF & Make\, the struggles they have faced and what the future holds for the North Docks Cultural Cluster.

DESCRIPTION:Date and time: Saturday 22nd November  2 – 4pm Make Argyle St \nMaterials: All materials provided \nWorkshop description: Artist Michelle Murray will be teaching in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere at Make Argyle St Birkenhead. Participants will construct their very own handmade Christmas paper decorations\, all materials provided on the day. \nBio: Michelle Murray is a multidisciplinary artist who works in a variety of mediums from illustration\, making handmade watercolours\, sketchbooks and charcoal to prints and 3D sculptures. She studied graphic design at Central Saint Martins Art College where she specialised in illustration. Her work is inspired by everyday life\, from childhood to nature in a Scandinavain folklore style.

DESCRIPTION:Fabric Fairy Lantern workshop\n  \nJoin Imogen\, at Make North Docks for a cosy & relaxing winter workshop creating your very own string of fabric fairy lanterns! \n  \nWhen : Sunday 23rd November\, 11am – 1pm \nWhere: Make North Docks\, 34 Regent Street\, Liverpool\, L3 7BN \n  \nIn this hands-on 2 hour workshop\, you will make a string of 10 fabric fairy lanterns to add a twinkle to your home or gift to a loved one. You’ll learn how to craft a beautiful string of battery-powered fairy lanterns using fabrics\, lampshade PVC and LED lights. Imogen will be supplying an array of gorgeous vintage and modern silk and cotton fabrics\, including Liberty tana lawn fabrics\, and fabrics upcycled from vintage silk scarves and kimono’s\, from which you can choose your own unique selections to create your bespoke set of fairy lanterns. There will also be Christmassy fabrics available for those who wish to make festive fairy lanterns! \nLet your creativity shine as you choose your fabrics and design a unique string of lanterns to light up any space. This in-person event is suitable for age 16+\, so bring your friends and family along for a fun and crafty time. Maximum of ten participants per session. All equipment and materials are provided and no prior experience is necessary. \nIf you wish to make your fairy lanterns more eco-friendly\, there is an option to purchase a rechargeable battery pack with charger at the special price of £8 (plug-in battery charger with 4 x AA Duracell rechargeable batteries) at the checkout when you purchase your ticket\, to power your fairy lanterns for years to come! Owner Imogen Woodings is an AMUSF (Association of Master Upholsterers) trained upholsterer\, skilled in both traditional and modern upholstery\, and was featured in the 2018 book A Celebration of British Craftsmanship. As well as upholsterimng furniture Imogen also teaches beginners upholstery classes\, and makes and sells beautiful handmade lampshades & cushions. \n
