SUMMARY:Beginner Sewing - Shorts or Pants
DESCRIPTION:This beginners course will take you step by step through the very basics of sewing. You will be taught over 3 workshops (Weds evenings). \n\n\nAbout this event \n\n\n\nThis beginners course will take you step by step through the very basics of sewing. You will be taught over the space of 6 hours how to make your own casual men’s shorts or women’s flared pants along with tricks and professional techniques to ensure the perfect finish to your garment. The course is spread over three weeks. \nIn week 1: You will be given a pattern to start cutting out your trousers using either your own material or alternatively you can use fabric provided by the tutor\, Anita. \nIf bringing your own you will need 2.5 meters of woven cotton or linen fabric that is 140cm wide. \nYou will have the opportunity to alter the width of the trousers so they can be wide palazzo or straighter\, according to your style. and you’ll make copy of your pattern that you can keep. \nThe tutor\, Anita will help you to set up your machine showing you all the parts of the sewing machine and giving a full explanation of how to thread it and load the bobbin. \nYou will learn about stitch length/width\, thread tension and look at any issues you have with your machine (if you have brought your own). If Anita can’t fix it \, she will point you in the direction of someone who can. You will receive continued support in threading and troubleshooting your machine throughout the course as it can be difficult at first. \nYou will practice stiches on the machine and learn how to reverse stitch and turn corners. You will try out stitching of different lengths and the zig zag stitches. Next\, with ample support and supervision\, you will start pinning and sewing your trouser pieces together. You’ll also be given instruction on how to use the overlocker and be given the opportunity to practice before using it to give you seams a professional neat finish. \n \n\n\nOver the next 2 weeks you will sew your trousers up to the finished garment which will give you plenty of practice in using your sewing machine to gain confidence in your new skills. \nThe class is capped at 4 people so you will receive lots of help. \nThis beginner course is a brilliant start for anyone new to sewing. If you have a machine you would like to use please bring it with you to all three classes. There are sewing machines available to use at no extra cost if needed. \nThe number of people on each course is limited to ensure a friendly and thorough teaching experience. Complimentary tea and coffee and biscuits will be available each class and there will be handouts covering some of the information discussed in class to refer to after you have finished the course. \n\n\n\n\nFAQs \nAre there ID or minimum age requirements to enter the event? \nAny child under 16 must be accompanied by an adult and we operate a no under 10 policy. \nWhat are my transportation/parking options for getting to and from the event? \nBy Train: \nWe are a stone’s throw away from Hamilton Square train station which is just a short walk down Cleveland street and accessible from all inner city Liverpool Stations and all Wirral line stations. \nBy Bus: \nThere are numerous bus stops nearby and around the Hamilton Square area\, all just short walks away from our space. These include numbers: 41\, 216\, 217\, 409\, 410\, 411\, 413\, 414\, 423\, 811 and several others. \nBy Car: \nFollow the signs for Hamilton Square. We don’t have any designated parking for visitors but there is a range of paid and free parking close by. \nPaid parking: \n– Cleveland Street \n– Prince Street \n– Elgin Way \n– Duncan Street \n– Hinson Street \nMore on wirral.gov.uk/parking-roads-and-travel \nFree and unlimited parking: \n– Russell Street (5 min walk) \n– Brooke Street East (5 min walk) \nHow accessible is the venue? \nThe workshop is located on the ground floor which provides full accessibility to the premises including toilet provisions. \nWhere can I contact the organiser with any questions? \nFeel free to get in touch with the Make CIC office at 0151 601 8665 or email hello@makecic.org \nIs my registration/ticket transferrable? \nIf you find that you cannot attend then you are welcome to pass your place on to a friend who may find it useful. Please let the organiser know if you need to do this. \nAlternatively tickets can be transferred to a future event up to 7 days before the event. \nDo I have to bring my printed ticket to the event? \nNo\, a register will be taken at the workshop\, it isn’t necessary to print your ticket. \nWhat is the refund/cancellation policy? \nRefunds will be offered in the event of the class being cancelled – in this instance we will give as much notice as possible\, usually at least 5 days\, and offer alternative dates if appropriate. \nThis class does have a minimum requirement of ticket sales to proceed\, so there is a possibility of it being cancelled\, but we will contact you five days before if this is the case. \nIf for any reason you find you are unable to attend then please get in touch and a refund can be offered up to 7 days before the workshop. \nThis is because we pay our practitioners fair wages for their work- giving refunds on last minute cancellations would mean that practitioners would not be paid for the preparation they have put into their classes. \n*Refunds will be given minus Eventbrite fees\, unless Make CIC cancel the class\, in which case a full refund will be given* \nThe name on the registration/ticket doesn’t match the attendee. Is that okay? \nPlease bring along a print out of your ticket if the registration does not match the attendee\, or contact hello@makecic.org to have them change the ticket so it contains your name. \nWhat can I bring into the event? \nYou don’t need to bring anything but yourself. All materials are provided. \nWear comfortable clothing and feel free to bring along a drink or a snack!
