Do you have a hobby which you would like to start making money on? Have you got an idea, product or prototype and you’re looking to explore starting a creative business but not sure where to start? This session will focus on all the fundamentals that you should think about when starting your creative business.
The session will cover:
- Are you ready financially?
- How do you think? – little quiz into their mindset
- Legal structures – Sole Trader, Ltd etc.,
- Registering with HMRC
- Overview of IP covering the 4 areas Copyright, Trademark, Registered Design and Patent.

About the Practitioner: Jenny Wallwork is a Business and Information Specialist at the Business & IP Centre Liverpool City Region. Jenny has over 20 years of experience working in an advisory role, helping individuals to reach their potential and businesses to start up and flourish. She is experienced in providing practical support around the fundamentals of starting up a business venture.
About BIPC: Based at Liverpool Central Library, the Business & IP Centre Liverpool delivers intellectual property advice and coaching sessions to support Liverpool SMEs from that first spark of inspiration to successfully launching and developing a business.
About the programme:
This session is part of a programme of workshops designed to provide tailored support to artists, makers and creatives living in the Liverpool City Region. Devised by Make CIC and in partnership with Baltic Creative CIC, each workshop is delivered in person by local expert practitioners who are able to share knowledge and valuable insight on each chosen topic.
About Eligibility:
This session is open to individuals living in the Liverpool City Region (Liverpool, Sefton, Knowsley, Wirral, St Helens, or Halton) only.
This session is part of a wider project called Enterprise Hub Skills which is funded by the European Social Fund (ESF). In order to access this support for free, all attendees are required to prove their eligibility in line with ESF’s funding requirements.
