Made by Make: Finsa Commission

Make Liverpool have completed a major commission for Birkenhead based wood manufacture Finsa, who wanted to find a striking way to exhibit their product range at one of the countries largest industry trade shows “KBB” at the
National Exhibition Centre, Birmingham.

Three concepts were proposed to Finsa’s MD Rafael Willisch by North Docks tenants, independent architect firm, WMB Studio. From these options a design was chosen that created an impactful innovative display of colour and architecture.

Makers were then appointed to construct the structure at Make Liverpool’s North Docks makerspace. A team of tenants and partners assembled and set about bringing the concept to life.

Despite the “beast from the east” creating some very challenging conditions during the installation in Birmingham, the structure went up and looked striking set against the traditional look of other trade stands!

This was an innovative collaboration of talents from the creative community of Liverpool’s City Region. Using local makers, designers and suppliers commissioned by an international company with their UK head quarters in Birkenhead. Money spent in this way goes much further than normal. As a social enterprise, Make Liverpool can reinvest project revenue back in to the community. Commissions such as this will help grow and sustain the creative community in the region.
