At Make CIC, our mission has always been simple yet powerful: helping people turn their passions into prosperity.
From makers and artists to makerspaces and community hubs, we have built a vibrant ecosystem where creativity thrives, skills are shared, and local economies are strengthened. But as any maker knows, a great project is always evolving. Today, we stand on the cusp of our most exciting evolution yet, and we are looking for a visionary Chair of the Board to help guide us through it.
Why This Chapter Matters
Make CIC is entering a period of profound, positive transformation. This is not just about maintaining what we have built; it is about reimagining how we serve our community for decades to come.
Our next Chair will lead us through two major, career-defining milestones:
1. Evolving to become more co-operative
To unlock opportunities and work hand-in-hand with our community of interest, we are undergoing an evolution of how we are run and governed. We are exploring the transition from a traditional CIC into a co-operative model and potentially seek an exempt charity status. This means we will be able to reinvest more resources into our mission while ensuring our makers, staff, and residents have leadership and involvement in the work that Make CIC does.
2. Guiding Major Projects
We have some incredibly exciting, large-scale projects on the horizon. Our next Chair will provide the vital strategic oversight and governance needed to help us manage high-profile deliverables, ensuring we bring these ambitious plans to life smoothly and successfully. These opportunities include:
- High profile commissioned work with artistic output around major sporting and cultural events in the region.
- The asset transfer, fund raising and refurbishment of Make Huyton in Knowsley.
- The long-term future of Make North Docks in North Liverpool’s Mayoral Development Zone.
Who We Are Looking For
We need a leader who is passionate about organisations that make a difference. Someone who understands the arts and culture are the golden thread of regeneration, and who can manage the complexity of an entrepreneurial organisation that has impact far beyond its size.
- Strategic Vision: The ability to see the big picture and steer us through complex legal, financial, and structural transitions.
- Collaborative Spirit: A commitment to co-operative values and empowering a diverse, passionate board of non-executive directors and executive team.
- Governance Expertise: A solid understanding of charity or co-operative governance to ensure we remain robust, compliant, and resilient.
- A Champion for Our Mission: Someone who genuinely believes in the power of giving people the space, tools, and support to build their own prosperous futures.
- The time: to be involved and supportive in a hands-on way.
