At Make CIC, we’re passionate about creating spaces where art and community come together, and on Saturday, December 7th, we’re bringing that energy to Birkenhead Market. In collaboration with Wirral Council, our Art Jam event will transform the market’s covered outdoor space into a vibrant, colourful showcase of creativity as part of the third Wirral Youth Market.
From 10am to 4pm, ten talented artists from across Wirral and Merseyside will work live on-site, designing large-scale murals and installations that will breathe new life into the market’s shutters. This is more than just a day of art—it’s an immersive experience where the community can witness the magic of creativity in real time.
Meet the Artists
We’re thrilled to spotlight a mix of incredible local talent, including:
- Rachel Smith-Evans of Quirky Design Co, a Liverpool-based decorative artist celebrated for her work with Eurovision and Taylor Town, as well as appearances on BBC’s The One Show and ITV.
- Gweni-Louu, a Birkenhead-based visual artist and Central Saint Martins graduate, creates emotive abstract paintings that blend vivid colours and expressive brushstrokes, reflecting her personal journey and spiritual revelations.
- Catherine Rogers, a Liverpool-based award-winning artist, creates intricate collages, sculptures, and installations that tell powerful stories, while championing accessible art and mental well-being through her decade of experience in creative engagement.
- Michelle Murray, a Wirral based interdisciplinary artist and Central Saint Martins graduate, specialises in illustration and uses diverse media to explore themes inspired by everyday life and childhood.
- Andrew Wolfenden, a Liverpool-based graphic artist with a graffiti background, creating bold, colourful murals and branding that blend typography, illustration, and texture, aiming to transform spaces and inspire joy, with highlights including work for Ray-Ban, Adidas, and Tate.
- Jessie Inkswell, a fantasy artist from Birkenhead, specialises in original character design for role-playing games, blending high fantasy and post-apocalyptic aesthetics in her work.
These artists, and more, will collaborate to turn the market into a hub of colour, creativity, and inspiration.

A Community Celebration
Art Jam isn’t just about the art—it’s about bringing people together. From families with children to local art enthusiasts, there’s something for everyone to enjoy. Plus, the event takes place alongside the Youth Market, where young entrepreneurs will showcase unique products and services, making it the perfect spot to pick up one-of-a-kind Christmas gifts.
Why This Matters
Kirsten Little, our Chief Operating Officer and Artistic Director of Made by Make, captures the spirit of the event:
“Art Jam is a celebration of local talent and creativity. It’s about transforming a space and connecting with the community in a meaningful way. We’re so excited to see the market come alive with the energy and vision of these incredible artists.”
The event has been made possible with support from the Future High Streets Fund and the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority’s UK Shared Prosperity Fund, both of which aim to rejuvenate our local spaces and boost opportunities for creative expression and entrepreneurship.
