It’s been a beautifully creative summer at Make, with the clear standout being our Make North Docks Showcase, which took over our warehouse from 16th – 21st July. Bringing together the incredible talent under our North Docks roof, the space came alive with everything from wearable art and fine jewellery to paintings, sculpture, and ceramics.
Over 100 visitors stepped through our doors throughout the week to explore the collection and grab a coffee at Caffe Riccardo. Here’s a look at the 15 local artists and makers who made the showcase so special:
Max McDonough (Rawhide Custom): Self-taught leather craftsman using traditional, machine-free techniques with full-grain English leather. Max displayed handcrafted pieces including the VICTOR classic Wallet, TARGET notepad, TRAFALGAR belt, and FALCON hip flask.

Ellie Webb: Painter blending figurative, abstract, and landscape elements in oils and acrylics to explore light and transformation. She exhibited two paintings: Tranquility of Life and Pathway to Light.

Ken Bullock: Retired signwriter and lifelong artist who has been painting in Liverpool since 1968. Ken brought vibrant color and bold lines to the space with three paintings alongside two sculptures: The Waterhorse and I Can See Our House From Here.

Emily Salinas: Graphic designer, artist, and signpainter behind Project Lovebomb (featured on Creative Boom, The Echo, and BBC Radio Merseyside), which alchemizes difficult personal experiences into positive, constructive art.

Rachel Owen: Artist whose work explores our fragile relationship with nature through tactile, salvaged materials. She showcased her hybrid creature sculpture Thing On a Spring and Residue, a sculpture inspired by the legend of the Weeping Buddha.

Ian Currie: Versatile sculptor working with found materials, epoxy putty, metal, and wire. Ian exhibited miniature motorbikes, an alien family sculpture, and keyrings (available at Made in Huyton).

Henry Wilson (Aitch Wilson Toys): Puppet maker combining folklore and imagination. Henry brought a brightly colored lineup including Elaine the Elephant, Colin the Crocodile, and Pinocchio.

Jay Walters (Kintsugilt): Artist using traditional gilding with 24ct gold leaf on foraged, discarded remains alongside vibrant acrylic paintings. Featured works included a gold-leaf taxidermy crab, 24ct gilded crab claw jewellery set, and Trout, a detailed geometric painting.

Victor Severyn: Contemporary blacksmith whose sculptural steelwork explores light and space. His piece, Light Steel, featured open, mast-like steel forms that allow light to pass through like water.

Lee Booth: Artist focused on craft, aesthetics, and conceptual curiosity. Lee presented two thought-provoking paintings: The Act of Re-creation and The Last Supper – Blind Faith.

Sasha Spyrou (Another Realm): Illustrator and maker inspired by folklore, horror, and witchy tales. Sasha displayed four giclée prints, including Vampire Rabbit of Newcastle and Black Shuck, alongside a felted Green Man banner.

James Carr (SPOOK Studios): Design studio bridging digital and physical worlds through light, sound, and haptics. SPOOK displayed The Vessel Frame, capturing unseen radio wave transmissions and freezing them into physical form.

Aurélie Vanbergen (Aura Ceramics): Liverpool-based ceramicist crafting modern yet timeless wheel-thrown and hand-built tableware, decor, and jewellery accents.

D’Castro: Self-taught 61-year-old local artist focused on accessible art created with low-cost materials. D’Castro exhibited three original paintings titled Agenda, Blessed are the Reasonable, Forgotten Morality and a custom printed t-shirt.
